CAREERS SERVICE MISSION STATEMENT

The Career Centre aims to provide comprehensive, first class resources and services that are complementary to and integrated with the academic provision of the college, enabling our students and graduates to develop, evaluate and implement career decisions and employment plans for the mutual benefit of employers and the College community.

THE MISSION WILL BE ACHIEVED BY:

  • Providing a comprehensive careers information, guidance and job search consultancy and advisory centre for students during their course and beyond graduation;
  • Providing consultancy service to the college on guidance and recruitment issues and to academics on changing labour market trends and graduate destinations;
  • Working with academics to integrate employability skills within the curriculum;
  • Providing a well-informed, professional consultancy service to employers on the benefits of partnership with St. Mary’s University College and an effective means of recruiting our graduates.

OUR AIMS

  1. To help students understand the process of career choice and develop their capacities to devise and implement both short–term and long–term career plans.
  2. To support actively the teaching and learning environment.
  3. To promote the best interests of the College and its students and to facilitate student/graduate access to employers, training providers and other external organisations.
  4. To assist the College in responding to the changing employment and training market for its students and to provide information on trends in graduate employment and further study.

THE AIMS ARE MET THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMMES AND SERVICES

Individual Career Guidance
Short discussions with the careers officer service available daily, or if required, a pre-arranged detailed consultation. Access to “Prospects Planner”, a computerised careers guidance programme.

Careers Education
Programmes relating careers management/skills development, workshops/briefings on specific topics, seminars, obligatory careers lectures.
