Student Counselling

Emotional problems and stress can affect any of us at any time. The loss of a relationship, health, exam worries or study problems can affect our moods and cause anxiety or depression. Study and academic progress may be directly affected as a result.

THE COLLEGE STUDENT COUNSELLING SERVICE OFFERS THE FOLLOWING SERVICES:

  • Individual counselling
  • Group counselling
  • Focused groups (e.g. coping with exams, stress management, assertiveness)
  • Counselling information

To come for counselling can take courage as it involves facing yourself and asking someone else for assistance. It is hoped, however, that counselling will lead you to greater knowledge of yourself and an understanding of your situation.

Usually we offer up to eight sessions per person. This is because we try to ensure that everyone is seen in the shortest time possible. If it is felt necessary, this period can be extended. It could be, however, that you may only need one or two sessions. Individual counselling sessions last fifty minutes.

Group counselling is also offered. There are groups that look at specific issues such as exam anxiety, stress management and assertiveness.
