On Sunday 15 January, clergy, religious, co-workers, parishioners, representatives of the other Christian churches and members of the SMT and Board of Governors at St Mary’s gathered in St Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast for a time of prayer and thanksgiving as we bid farewell to Archbishop Noel Treanor.

Archbishop Treanor left the Diocese of Down and Connor on January 21st to begin his new appointment as Papal Nuncio to the European Union. This is a great honour for Archbishop Treanor and both the Diocese and the College are very proud of him.

Vespers was an opportunity to pray for Archbishop Treanor and thank him for his fourteen plus years of ministry in the Diocese including Chair of our Governing Body and Senior Trustee. Archbishop Treanor leaves a long and positive legacy behind him. We will miss him dearly, we are thankful for his leadership and pastoral care. We hold him in our prayers and wish him every blessing in his new role.
