Condolences
Bishop Anthony Farquhar RIP

Bishop Anthony Farquhar RIP

It is with great sadness that the governors, staff and students at St Mary’s University College received news of the death of Bishop Anthony Farquhar.

Bishop Farquhar was a long-time friend of our College. Since his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop of Down and Connor in 1983, Bishop Farquhar was a frequent visitor to St Mary’s. He will be remembered for his kindness, his strong sense of humour and his joyous love of sport.

He joined in the celebrations when St Mary’s won the Sigerson Cup in 1989 and the Collingwood Cup in 1998.
Bishop Farquhar attended twenty Liberal Arts commencement ceremonies and enjoyed the occasions when he met the parents and friends of our students.

On behalf of St Mary’s, the College Principal, Professor Peter Finn KSG, expresses our condolences to Bishop Farquhar’s sister Anne and to the wider family circle, as well as to the priests, religious and faithful of the diocese.

May Bishop Farquhar rest in peace.
