Disability Sport NI delivered a course for St Mary’s students on Tuesday, 21 January. The course, sponsored by Sainsbury’s, was facilitated by GAA development officer, Stephen Beattie, and delivered by Disability Sport NI's Patricia O'Neill.
The workshop lasted all day with three hours of theory-related content in the area of good practice, addressing inclusion in all activities. The afternoon saw the theory being put into practice when the participants were challenged to solve problems of inclusion for varying abilities and disabilities within a sporting activity. The activities which followed included boccia games, blindfold games and wheelchair activities, to name but a few.
The course was considered to be very worthwhile and such a great success that two additional dates have been secured, which will enable a further fifty students to participate.
