MSc Programme Key Information 2023-24


General Information

  • A distinctive full-time programme.
  • The aim is to improve the lives of children and young people through sport.
  • Post COVID-19 PE & sport have been recognised as key contributors in the recovery for children in terms of mental, physical and social health.
  • This course will promote the Sport NI strategy which states “We are passionate about maximising the power of sport to change lives. By 2025, we want the power of sport to be recognised and valued by all”
  • The MSc in Physical Education & Sport for Young People provides a suite of vocationally-oriented taught modules that allow students to upskill in this discipline to enhance their employment opportunities.

Entrance Requirements

Candidates for admission to the MSc in Physical Education and Sport for Young People should normally hold an honours degree or equivalent qualification in a related field. Applicants with an Honours degree or equivalent qualification in another discipline may also be considered if they have at least two years of experience in an education, sport or relevant context.

Careers

As a new course, it is anticipated that this degree will be beneficial for improving leadership practice in their workplace. It will also be beneficial in expanding the roles graduates undertake at work, and in gaining employment or promotion. Some may progress to doctoral-level studies and research.

The course is designed so that students can engage in other professional development and experience while enrolled. This will also advance their career prospects.

 

Finance

Students wishing to complete a course do so on a self-funding basis. In the academic year 2023-2024 the following fees will apply:

1 EU citizens in the EU Settlement Scheme, with settled status, will be charged the NI or GB tuition fee based on where they are ordinarily resident. Students who are ROI nationals resident in GB will be charged the GB fee.

2 EU students who are ROI nationals resident in ROI are eligible for NI tuition fees.

3 EU Other students (excludes Republic of Ireland nationals living in GB, NI or ROI) are charged tuition fees in line with international fees.

All tuition fees quoted are for the academic year 2023-24, and relate to a single year of study unless stated otherwise. Tuition fees will be subject to an annual inflationary increase, unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Postgraduate Tuition Fee Loan

The Department for the Economy will provide a tuition fee loan of up to £6,500 per NI / EU student for postgraduate study - Postgraduate loans in Northern Ireland and EU. The PG TFL is non-means tested and is paid directly to the Higher Education Provider.
