Between 14 and 17 October, the College hosted a study visit by two academics from the University of Copenhagen. Professor Peter Leese and Professor Celia Hughes were in Belfast to look at how cultural and social aspects of Northern Irish society were affected by the conflict and at how, subsequently, we have come to deal with representation and identity. As part of the trip, Professor Hughes gave a lecture to the second-year Liberal Arts and Erasmus students on “European Modernity and the Post-War British Landscape, 1945-64”. Professor Hughes’s lecture looked at how British society changed in the 1950s and 1960s within the context of the European Union. The College and its Copenhagen partners also are working towards a joint research project and looking at postgraduate opportunities for St Mary’s Liberal Arts students in Copenhagen.
