Dr Seán Mac Corraidh of St Mary’s University College Belfast launched a new Irish-English dictionary on Saturday, 20 February 2016, at 1:00 pm in Cultúrlann McAdam/Ó Fiaich, Falls Road, Belfast. It was recently published by Pádraig Ó Snodaigh of Coiscéim, a Dublin-based publishing house.
The volume, Bunfhoclóir Gaeilge-Béarla: A Basic Irish-English Dictionary, is directed at assisting learners to express their ideas and to develop their self-confidence in Irish language composition. It includes an appendix containing lists of useful, comprehensive and wide-ranging phrases, idioms and sayings.
The dictionary, containing four thousand headwords, was edited by Eoghan Mac Aogáin, a linguist and researcher, and Máire Nic Mhaoláin, who has wide experience in editing Irish-language dictionaries and translating novels to Irish from languages including English, Italian and Welsh.
