During the last term Dr Peter Downey, Head of Music, has had a number of articles and book chapters published in American and European journals and conference proceedings.
They cover topics such as the soprano trombone, the French contribution to the early orchestra, and the English hunting horn repertory of the 16th-18th centuries including a preliminary account of a manuscript of "Early Irish Hunting Calls from 1679" that was recently auctioned for €5000. They are the result of presentations made at international musicological conferences at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel in Switzerland, and the Trompeter-Museum at Bad Säckingen in Germany.
New arrangements by Dr Downey of Bach's Zion hears the Watchmen's Voices and the medieval carol Gaudete, Christus est natus were also performed during the College Carol Service on 13 December 2006.
