Liberal Arts at St Mary's

The aims of the BA (Liberal Arts) degree place an emphasis on employability: students are provided with opportunities that should enable them to be ‘well-equipped for a range of employment opportunities at graduate level’. Units within the degree programme on Career and Personal Development, and the opportunities for work-related learning help to meet this aim. Studying for a BA (Liberal Arts) degree at St Mary’s will assist you in developing the core skills and employment-related experiences that are valued by employers, professional organisations and academic institutions. There are also further opportunities for the development of entrepreneurship skills.

Liberal Arts graduates have entered a wide range of employment situations. Our graduates have found careers in Accountancy, Banking, Business & Commerce, Charitable Organisations, Journalism, Leisure & Entertainment, Marketing, Fashion, and the Sports Industry.

Students graduating with a Liberal Arts degree also enter a range of post-graduate courses such as post-graduate diplomas, Masters, Conversion Masters and PGCE courses. The range of post-graduate courses followed by our graduates includes Masters degrees in Business Administration, Criminology, English Literary Studies, European Union Politics, Film and Media Studies and Public Health. The study of an academic subject and research training within the BA (Liberal Arts) facilitate such choices.

A small number of students have gone abroad to follow post-graduate courses (e.g. an MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Holland; an MA in European Literature in Slovakia) or to take up careers in international trade and development.
