Qualifications: MEd (Physical Education); PGCE (Physical Education); BA (Hons) Sport, Exercise and Leisure; HND Leisure Studies.
College work: I teach on Physical Education courses in both practical and theory settings across the Liberal Arts, BEd, and PGCE pathways.
Our PE courses are structured to develop our students’ subject knowledge and application of skills in practical activity settings for children. My theoretical teaching covers philosophy, curriculum innovation, safe practice, research methods and the role of the PE coordinator. My practical focus is on swimming, athletics and gymnastics. The same areas are my focus in developing the students’ skills when working with children in activity settings.
We rely upon local schools to provide opportunities for students to work with children; this allows us to develop student skills across the Nursery, Foundation and Key Stages 1 & 2 age ranges.
I am a member of the Northern Irish Branch of the association for PE (the afPE). The afPE promotes and maintains high standards and safe practice in all aspects and at all levels of PE in the UK, as well as influencing developments in PE at national and local levels. The NIafPE was formally launched recently and acts as the Professional Body for PE and school sport here. |
